Soo, Friday night was probably what will be the highlight of my weekend. Blu & Mainframe had their album release party for Johnson & Jonson at Subterranean. Dope album, check that shit out. The party was kicked off by Rabid Vinyl Monks, a 3 dj set, and was followed by local hip hop acts.

The first of these acts was an emcee/dj combo by the name of 80's Babies. They were actually pretty dope. I forgot the emcee's name, but the dj/producer was Tall Black Guy. Cool cat, I met him about a year ago at a beat battle hosted by my student org. Next was another group of 2 emcees 1773. These dudes had some weird stage presence, one cat was standing in one spot spittin, while the other cat was fucking spazzin out. I was wondering if this dude was epileptic or somethin. Following 1773 was a double set with Decay and Astonish with Sean Doe on the tables, both were pretty dope emcees. As dope as they were, I was gettin a little anxious for them to get off stage so Blu could perform and I could go the fuck home.

So Blu finally got on stage and shut shit down, performing songs from Johnson & Jonson and Below The Heavens. I must say that even though he paid homage to Nas' The World is Yours, he kind of upset me when he butchered the lyrics. I mean, how could you do that when you have a song loosely based on the concept of that song??? As, Blu kept performing, he was being told by the in-house tech guy that he needed to wrap up, and the fans were pretty upset about that. But before Blu got off stage, after pleading to the tech guy to stay on stage to lace us with some more heat, he dropped a freestyle for us.


Glad I went!

By the way, I told the nigga I had been looking for Below The Heavens for the longest, he told me it was finally in Best Buy. I'm gonna get that shit next paycheck!

You know, I think it's funny that whenever I create a profile on a new online community website, I never really know where to start. When I get ready to write my about me section, I'm like "what should I say about myself??" Same for Blogger. I didn't really know how to start my blog off, but I figure I'll hit yall off with a little introduction of myself..

Yup, the name's Corey (friends call me Bud, Corey Bud, or Genius..). I'm an avid listener of Hip Hop music (thus the name GeniusHeartsHipHop) and I'm a HUGE Nas fan. So a majority of my posts will be hip hop related. I'm a man of many, many thoughts, but I almost never share them. It drives me crazy. It's the main reason why I created this blog, to create an outlet so that all of these thoughts and ideas up top can find a way out...
